Lacrosse was started by the Native American Indians and was originally known as stickball. The game was initially played in the St. Lawrence Valley area by the Algonquian tribe and they were followed by other tribes in the eastern half of North America, and around the western Great Lakes.
We want to give every child the opportunity to play and enjoy the sport of lacrosse.
Our grants and scholarships help to support community partners that create participation opportunities and break down the barriers that prevent some individuals from the experiencing lacrosse.
Live Sport Center Lacrosse offers grants in four categories: grants for learning (Education Grants), grants for player development (Player Development Grants), grants for equipment (Equipment Grants), and grants to fund unmet programmatic needs (Financial Grants).
Scholarships are available for educational opportunities for coaches and officials along with academic scholarship assistance for children of coaches, players of Native America descent and those from the LGBTQ+ community.
The United States has been setting the gold standard since winning the first multi-country international championship in 1967. The U.S. has won a record 31 World Lacrosse championships through its men’s and women’s program, all while aiming to do more. Our players serve as role models, our coaches share their knowledge around the world and our officials mentor the best from other countries to help pave the way for the next generation.
